How to build a garden bench

If you are looking for a simple way to enhance the look of your garden, building a bench could be one possibility, especially if you have a tight budget and basic woodworking skills. The easiest way to get the job done is to use lumber. Select the components with great attention, making sure you choose weather-resistant lumber. Don't buy the slats that are not perfectly straight or have other visible flaws.

How to build a garden bench

A bench with a curved seat is one of the most amazing woodworking projects you can build for your backyard. Select the right plans for the job, making sure it features a cut list with all the components required for the job.

Take accurate measurements before making the cuts and smooth the edges, in order to get a professional result. Make sure the corners are right angled before inserting the screws, to prevent the wood from splitting.

Drill pocket holes and insert pocket screws, as you both get a professional result and create really rigid joints between the components. Add glue to the joints and remove the excess using a damp cloth.

Garden Seat Plans

If you want to build a garden seat, but you are looking for a basic design, you should pay attention to the project shown in the diagram. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws and place the seat slats equally-spaced. Use a spirit level to plumb the legs and to check if the seat slats are horizontal.

If you want a more complex bench, just use the model shown in the diagram. The backrest will make all the difference, even if it requires more materials and more woodworking skills.
